‘Professional Thief’ who Scammed Laseks is Sentenced to 15 Years

Bucky Lasek big heart, big indy to fakie in Vegas

It appears the modern day wild west of the east known as Baltimore city, has some hope for justice after all. The land of the lawless has seen the scales tilt in the correct direction twice in as many months. First it was the now infamous Officer “Don’t Call Me Dude” Rivieri getting fired and loosing his pension just two years short of his 20 years on the job for his abuse and assault of a 14 year old skater. Now one of the lowest types of scammers who pulled a long con on Bucky and Jen Lasek and duped many others by faking cancer has gotten her due and proper.  Check the story from The Baltimore Sun.

Nick Madigan of The Baltimore Sun Reports:

Woman sentenced to 15 years in cancer scam

Judge calls Dina Leone a ‘professional thief,’ orders her to pay $14,000 in restitution

A 38-year-old Rosedale woman who falsely claimed she was dying of cancer, and who a prosecutor said “ripped off person after person” to pay for nonexistent treatments, was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison by a judge who called her a “professional thief.”

Dina Perouty Leone, a former real estate agent whose license was revoked in 2007 for unrelated offenses, was ordered to pay restitution of $14,090 to two of her victims, each of whom had lost a parent to cancer before they went to Leone’s aid.

Leone, who had astonished investigators with her lack of remorse and combative nature when they first interviewed her last year, was contrite and tearful Thursday before the judge, and said she had found religion.

“I didn’t know I had a problem until this came up,” Leone said. “It’s not easy for me because I don’t know right from wrong all the time. I just need a chance.” (more…)

Paul Rodriguez refuses to skate in Dew Tour Las Vegas, doubles down with Mountain Dew as sponsor

Is it to much to ask to have one straight flat bar?

In the movie “The Departed” Jack Nicholson quotes John Lennon as saying “I’m an artist. You give me a fucking tuba, I’ll get you something out of it.” The point I’m making with John Lennon is – a man could look at anything, and make something out of it…”.

We all have seen P-Rod and the Dew Tour enough to know their templates. Paul rolls down the bank, rolls up to a flat bar hits a sick trick, then repeats…only switch. That’s his bread and butter.

The Dew Tour sets up a generally bland but large course in a Mega Arena that allows every one who skates it be able to reach into their bag of tricks and easily pull out bangers.

With Street League’s zero tolerance enforcement of their exclusivity clause coming into effect next year, Paul’s return to the Dew Tour next year was doubtful, now his retirement from Dew seems assured. Sponsor Mountain Dew is less than thrilled with Paul’s walk off . This could be the desired effect if P-Rod wants out of his contract. It could be a ill advised attempt at leveraging a better contract. It could be the lady troubles are getting to him. It may or may not be any of those things. But it is defiantly bad form. Shame on you P-Rod. Take solace in that any pro or am skater of lesser your name and ability would be black listed for what you just pulled.

Shaun White Wins Dew Tour Vert Finals in Vegas as PLG Takes the Dew Cup

2010 Dew Cup Winner PLG

The Dew Tour finals in Vegas this year came down to a battle between substance, style, and amptitude. Representing substance and style were Bucky Lasek, PLG, and Andy Macdonald. On the side of amplitude was Shaun White, Sandro Dias, and Pedro Barros.

While all of these top competitors possess each of these elements in different degrees, the judges favored amplitude over substance in awarding Shaun White a first place finish. The theme of you have to “spin to win” carried the day as the complexity of back to back tech tricks and the way they were pulled off was not valued as much.
